Bodies In The Gears Of The Apparatus – S/T
This is a self produced 3″ CDR, featuring 4 tracks all of whose titles are at least as long as the band’s name, and one of which is just an long movie sample. I was expecting something in the experimental realm from this project, but to my surprise, it’s raging Grind/Death and pretty good at that. Primarily fast, with the occasional mid paced break, screaming unintelligible vocals, tight strong production. The music isn’t overly complicated, but there is an element of chaos to some of it that you get from the more technical projects. The writing is plump with urgency and feeling, and ultimately more engaging than bands that focus purely on fretboard spasms. These are strong, well written tracks, but they aren’t entirely distinct from the rest of the genre. If asked to pick them from a line up of 20 good, similar Grind bands I might not be able to do it right away, but they are still better than a bulk of the stuff bobbing around that scene. – Scott
