Come in and burn…

We’re a little late this time out, but hitting our stride with the weekly updates regardless. Thank you for the return action, for the visit count for this site remains consistent. If you like what we’re doing with Worm Gear, please help us spread the word. Join us on Twitter. Tell your friends at home and on Facebook. We would like for this to expand and reach more people and maybe a few of our lofty goals as well. Either way, Jim and I are really enjoying the work and the opportunity to share our thoughts. Next week will feature an interview with Panopticon and hopefully Weapon should it return in time. Until then, here are a handful of reviews for you all to chew on and our playlists. 1. Atriarch – Ritual of Passing
Fiends at Feast Towards the Baphomet’s Throne
    God Seed – I Begin
Early Graves – Red Horse + live
Gorgoroth – all Gaahl/King era releases

  2. Been meaning to investigate Godseed, but I figured it would be in league with the pre fallout Gorgoroth albums. I’m sure it’s good, just not a big surprise.

  3. Type O Negative – October Rust
My Dying Bride – A Map of All Our Failures
    Fucked Up – Hidden World
    Enslaved – RIITIIR
    Mutilation RItes – Empyrean
Ulcerate – Of Fracture and Failure
    Autolatry – Of the Land
    God Seed – I Begin

  4. Indesinence – Vessels of Light and Decay (album cover is awesome!!)
    Dismember – Indecent and Obscene
    Christ Child – Hard
Fugax – Bury the Hatchet Wound
Entrails – Tales from the Morgue.
    Tenhi – Maaaet
Trillion Red – Echo Road EP
A Forest of Stars – A Shadowplay of Yesterdays

  5. Never listened to Early Graves ’til now. Love that raw and chunked-out guitar sound on the ‘Goner’album. Good call, sir! -Jim

  6. I fucking love October Rust. It hasn’t left my car’s cd case since 1996. Great choice. -Jim

  7. Surprised on the Entrails; at first I was thinking I’d heard this all before, but that extra bit of melody that comes in at 1:15 on ‘Blood Red’ piqued my interest, and from there the riffs choices just continued to slay. And Indesinence’s new one will certainly make any death/doom fan proud. So many recently-released albums worth owning are out right now…-Jim

  8. Been Playing This Week:
    Hellhammer- Satanic Rites
    Celtic Frost- To Mega Therion
    My Dying Bride- Trinity
My Dying Bride- As the Flower Withers
various early 80s US metal 7″ obscurities

    These Just In:
My Dying Bride- A Map of All Our Failures
    Deathspell Omega- Si Monumensum…
The Sword- Apocryphon (and there goes my street cred 🙂 )

  9. Enough cannot be said about To Mega Therion. ‘The Usurper’, ‘Necromantical Screams’… that album never fails to induce bone-spur headbanging when I throw it on. And no worries on street cred, I’ll probably have an album people love to hate on next week’s list \m/

  10. The only street creed one needs is to like quality and know the difference. Having a squeegeed 3rd eye is all that matters. Doesn’t matter what type of music it is. The Sword is cool. Albums are starting to sound ‘samey’, but still very good Heavy Metal, nonetheless.

Yes Jim, Entrails’ 1st album has an amazing production. Programmed drums even sound awesome, despite some of the obvious ‘programmed’ fill sounds. It is just such a fat production. Compression and attack on it are just perfect. Yes, not reinventing the wheel by any means in way of song writing, but out of any genre or subgenre that is, I am the most forgiving of Nihilist, Entombed, Dismember worship bands. Only a few can pull it off, and this album did. Entrails’ 2nd release is pretty boring though. As for Binah, their guitar sound is the HM2/Entombed deal, but the music is much more of a Blackened type melodic Death metal. It is fucking awesome and dark. Long live high quality Death and Black Metal.

  11. Well said on all points, sir! And I’ve got a copy of the Binah coming to Marty’s distro from Dark Descent. I have a feeling, based on what I’ve already heard, that Swedeath sounding monster won’t be leaving quietly once it arrives on my doorstep \m/
