Venomous magik of chaos…

Slim pickings this week for sure, but we have emerged from the Summoning daze just long enough to offer up a trusty update. I’m a complete fanboy when it comes to this band, so it has been difficult to actually want to listen to anything else, but I have purposely been trying to keep it balanced. As we prepare for next week, the Worm Hordes will be taking a little time to enjoy the springlike weather finally and make a little trip into the woods for a team building session. What does this entail you ask? Trees. Critters. Beer. Metal. Food. Repeat. Should be a nice escape from our dingy holes as we struggle to understand what exactly that burning ball in the sky is. Of course photographic evidence will be shared with the rest of the class next week should we all like and agree upon our glamour shots.

Hopefully soon that MIA Arckanum interview will finally surface and we shall iron out more details. I know Jake and myself will be entering into a huge undertaking with a career retrospective essay on the ever trusty and prolific Graveland. Perhaps an interview will come out of the deal as well… we shall see. In the meantime, get out and enjoy spring! It has sprung! -Marty

  1. I see some great albums passed by your audio systems dear sirs! Hellwell, Revenge, Skogen, Seidr… Hurrah! Let’s see what I find lingering near the music machines:

Necrophobic – The Nocturnal Silence (this band deserves more praise, right up there with Dissection imo!)
    Midnight – Satanic Royalty
Midnight – Complete & Total Hell (the cocky bastard child of Venom and Motörhead, “Lust, Filth and Sleaze” like the song says… Check it out!)
    Forbidden – Forbidden Evil
    Forbidden – Omega Wave
    Darkthrone – The Underground Resistance
Asphyx – The Rack (this NEVER gets old!)
    Obituary – The End Complete
    Abscess – Dawn of Inhumanity
    Benediction – Organised Chaos
Benediction – Killing Music (they turned more crust than death metal recently, and I’m glad for it!)
    Brutality – Screams of Anguish
Oniricous – Ritos Diabolicos (new spanish lovecraftian old school death metal band with spanish lyrics, very good, check it out!)
General Surgery – Corpus In Extremis: Analyzing Necrocriticism (old school Carcass worship!)

I’m very much interested in that Graveland piece, never really checked him out.
    Happy camping fellas!

  2. Looking forward to the new Summoning!

    Spinning This Week:
    Mercyful Fate- Melissa
Mercyful Fate- Don’t Break the Oath (still get goosebumps every time King screams, “they’re gonna get themselves kiiiiiiiiiiiiilllled!”)
    House of Lords- Cartesian Dreams
Royal Hunt- Show Me How to Live
Alabama- Roll On. ‘Cause nightsblood’s feeling just a lil’ bit country 😉

  3. “And roll on, eighteen-wheeler, Roll on” \m/

  4. Definitely dig ‘Complete & Total Hell’, great stuff; kudos on the Obituary as well!
Interesting about Benediction, I’ll have to check out that crusty move they’ve made … \m/

  5. Check out Killing Music: simple and straightforward and highly effective with riffs that are more punk than death IMO (hey, they even cover Amebix). I really dig the lyrics on this one; creepy serial killer stuff but done in an intelligent way. Plus the title track is a tribute to Chuck Schuldiner (they don’t mention his name, but it’s pretty clear), who apparently was a big fan and took Benediction on tour a couple of times.

I also dig their early stuff up till Transcend the Rubicon (which I’d say is a minor death metal classic). After that Dave Ingram lost his way IMO, trading in his gruff deathgrunt for a deathcore-lite bark. Glad they eventually hooked up with Dave Hunt (of Anaal Nathrakh fame) for Killing Music and Organised Chaos. His vocals are also a bit more pronounced than the typical deathgrunt but they’re dripping with bile and venom and bloodthirst… \m/

  6. Tribulation – The Formulas of Death – spinned it once yesterday. Intrigued to this point

Eviltails> How’s that Kingdom album? It’s been staring at me from the Helltrhasher Productions website, looks interesting.

  9. The Kingdom is very very good. It is short and sweet and quite evil Death Metal. High marks and worth adding to the collection. VHOL is kiiiillllleeeerrrr!! I agree. That thing was on repeat endlessly for days.

  10. Thanks, I’ll check it out. I’ve developed a soft spot for those Polish metal labels (Hellthrasher, Selfmadegod, Pagan, Agonia), they release loads of quality death/black metal.

    Vhöl slays!

And speaking of slaying, Jeff Hanneman’s death made me pretty sad. One of the heroes of my teens…

    And agreed, Bölzer kicks ass!

  20. you are a better man. i couldn’t wait on the arckanum.

  21. and so far the immolation seems like they are kinda of just running through the motions. but i listened to immolation for 3 weeks straight just recently, various albums, and i think i am just burnt out on that sound. i’ll wait till they come here to play live a in a few weeks to give this new album a proper listen

  22. but the arckanum sounds fucking great. this might be my favorite of his for sure. it is sick and crusty!

  23. Waiting is easier when there’s so many other goodies still lying around waiting to be absorbed more… Just received a package from Flenser with Panopticon, Ash Borer and Skagos!
