Hollow halls of the damned…
Due to work obligations, there won’t be an update this week, but we shall return next Wednesday with more opinionated rants and hopefully a completed interview or 2.
Lastly, us Worm guys would like to thank you all for making our Halloween update our most successful and viewed posting since the re-launch of Worm Gear! It means a lot and we hope you have been enjoying yourself over at our little corner of the net.
Till next week, feel free to deposit your playlists here and spark up a topic of conversation. We will be adding ours to this thread as time permits. -Marty
I just got the new special Decibel issue Top 100 Black Metal Albums and have been going through the list starting at 100. Besides that the playlist has been rather small.
Falkenbach – Asa
Deathspell Omega – Drought
Rotting Christ – A Dead Poem
Axeslasher – Anthology of Terror, Vol 1.
Let me guess… Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir are both on that list right?
Lol martyworm, they are. I believe The Principle of Evil Made Flesh and Enthroned Darkness Triumphant to be precise, with Principle coming in at 31 and Enthroned at 59.
Yes, they are that predictable. I guess looking at the level of popularity of both bands, it is inevitable they would be on the list, but really… do they deserve to be? *rollseyes*
…and the answer to that question is: NO. Black metal posterboys…
Meanwhile, back at the funny farm:
Asphyx – Deathhammer
Asphyx – Death… The Brutal Way
Grand Supreme Blood Court – Bow Down Before the Blood Court
Hail of Bullets – …of Frost and Fire
(all hail Martin van Drunen, has there ever been a death metal vocalist that has been in so many great bands??)
Thanatos – Justified Genocide
Thanatos – Undead. Unholy. Divine
Sinister – Creative Killings
And besides the Dutch Death worshipping:
Aelter – Dusk Dawn/Follow You Beloved
Wolvserpent – Bloodseed/Gathering Strengths
Mastodon – Leviathan
Mastodon – Crack the Skye
Today is the Day – Axis of Eden
Convulse – Evil Prevails (fuck YEAH! The reunion delivers!)
Pagan Altar – Mythical & Magical
Hypocrisy – End of Disclosure
Manowar – Sign of the Hammer (Thor! That guitar solo!)
Kreator – Endless Pain (while driving a car, not a good idea. This whips my innards to a delicious frenzy)
freek, I’ve been spinning Endless Pain a lot lately too. Probably one of my favorite debut thrash albums of any band or even favorite thrash albums period. I actually even like this album more than Show No Mercy and I like that album a lot.
Show No Mercy versus Endless Pain… Tough call. I’d say Show No Mercy has got slightly better songwriting but Endless Pain is much more energetic and raw and passionate, a total kick in the gut. Show No Mercy still wins for now, simply because I’ve known it a lot longer.
It’s really apples and oranges and I would say that Show No Mercy is historically a more important album. However at this point in time for me I find myself reaching for Endless Pain more often than Show No Mercy.
It’s hard to compare 2 albums from 2 corners of the world that have no real connection to each other. Compare is one thing, decide which is better is impossible. Stylistically they are different. Vocally they are different. Both are lumped into the thrash or speed metal category, that’s it for similarities.
True. But this is no objective comparing, just saying which one I like better.
