Corrosive – Slaughtered In Vain
This is a 4 song MCD from this West Virginia band. This first thing I notice is the production, it reminds me of Pantera or something, tight compressed guitar tone, and crisp drums that stand out too much from the rest of the mix. The music is kind of in the mid paced Speed Metal vein, which is reinforced by the tuning and guitar solos. The riffs are also much more Speed Metal, than Death or Thrash, they incorporate the break downs and some of the note picky rhythms, but never really embrace the speed side of the genre for very long. Vocally this is sort of a gravelly shout that really doesn’t effect you for the better or worse it’s just kind of there. This is reminding me of something, but I can’t place it, probably because it was something I didn’t listen to much back in the 80’s either. Part of me wants to like this for the simple fact that it’s kind of nice to hear something that is such a throw back to a great period of Metal, and done without the pretension of the bands now who do it from a “retro” stand point. This is just honestly what it is. Unfortunately it’s only mediocre, and would have been back then to. It has some of the energy and captures the feel well, but just doesn’t have that phantom element to really make it stick. – Scott
