Watch as flowers decay, on the cryptic life that died …

A sad week in Metal, as we mourn the passing of the great Jeff Hanneman (RIP) of Slayer. Also, a bizarre week in Metal, as we scratch our heads at the meth-related(!) antics of guitarist Allen West, formerly of Obituary/Six Feet Under. Oh yeah, and some Christian metalcore dude tried to hire an undercover cop to murder his wife … hm.

Anyway, the Worm Gear warlords once again bring you your Wednesday dose of ear canal evisceration, with coverage of new albums by Sacriphyx, VHK, Grift, and Cadaveric Fumes. And while we can’t help you with any spank-bank material (though if this does, we don’t have a problem with that), Marty thought you’d like to share in Worm Gear’s forest-bonding this past weekend with an unglamour shot of your friendly neighborhood writers in arms. For something different (or maybe as payback), post in your playlists a photo of your choosing as well this week. Or don’t, we won’t call 911 about your meth lab or, well, hire a police officer to kill you (we promise)!

  1. Yeah, these last couple of days have been pretty funny in popular Metal News. Entertaining to say the least. Sorry guys, I am not even sure how to post a picture here. If I did, I would need to put on my assless chaps and do a nice pose for you. Where is that tassled leather jacket anyways?

    Listening to:
    Hatespawn – Blasphemous Redeemer
Blood of Kinku – De Occulta Philosophia
    Bolzer – Roman Acupuncture Demo
    Bones – S/t
Tribulation – The Formulas of Death (keeps getting better and better, the slowest ‘grower’ I have come across I think)
    Rotor – Festaal Kreuzbert
Owl – s/t (Zeigeister DM band, not other other ones called Owl that suck)
Necrocurse – Grip of the Dead (got the vinyl and badass slipmat)
    Mold – Demo
Arckanum – Fran Marder (I like this, but the riffs are almost too much of Burzum riff off riffs, while his other one Kostogher is a blatant Burzum wanna be album.)

  2. Marty> GBH!!! And indeed, Through Eyes of Glass… That was actually the first Forbidden song I ever heard (the Live at the Dynamo version), a friend of mine force fed it to me many times because he was there at the Dynamo when it was recorded.
Jim> Individual Thought Patterns, sweet proggy deathness (or deathly prog?), love that one.
Jake> Loveless, classic! Have you ever heard their new one?
eviltails> how’s that Bones? Thought about ordering that one yesterday.

    Been playing:
    Vhöl – Vhöl
    Evoken – Atra Mors
Indesinence – Vessels of Light and Decay (wow!)
Altar of Plagues – Teethed Glory & Injury
Swazafix – Anthems of Apostasy (that delicious old school muddy demo feel, plus great riffs!)
Discharge – Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing (“the possibility of life’s destructiooooon!!!”)
    Forbidden – Green
Machine Head – Through the Ashes of Empires
    Agalloch – The Mantle
    Coroner – Punishment for Decadence
Thrall – Away from the Haunts of Men
    Anacrusis – Screams and Whispers
    Slayer – Hell Awaits
    Slayer – South of Heaven

  3. Fuck, forgot one I really need to mention:

    Oniricous – Ritos Diabolicos
Check it out! Great album, great dudes. Nevermind that it’s on Razorback, this is the shit.

  4. Bones is a must, no question. Some EXCELLENT crusty punkish Death Metal. So punk their is only one guitar on the right channel, and the bass on the left. It is f’ing awesome.

  5. freek:

  6. ikbenfreek: I have yet to hear it, and they only thing I’ve heard about it was that it was released. How is it?

  7. Sounds like a must indeed…

  8. Jake> No, haven’t heard it either, figured you might tell me how it is hahaha… I sense I’m a bit reluctant to check it out, guess I’m a bit allergic to all the hype surrounding it and the fact that Shields took like a century to make it. Plus the recent re-release of their old stuff (which took Shields a century to re-master too) smells like a cash-in…

  9. Freek – Fenris Rindir has arrived. Whats with the back of the album and t-shirt saying ‘fuck off’? me no likely

  10. It hasn’t arrived here yet, so I don’t have a clue.

  11. oh good, then, i got mine first, moohuahahahaha! is that the evil laughter spelling?
